Students to have e-learning days after fire at Alabaster school

Update: Two sisters who were passing by the school saw smoke and called 911. Emma and Ragan Sennett, who attend Thompson High School, were thanked by the superintendent and the board of education president for their quick thinking which likely saved the school from more damage. —–Students at Thompson Elementary School will have e-learning days Monday through Wednesday, April 24-26, after a fire at the school.School officials said a parent who was passing the school Saturday night saw smoke and called authorities.The fire was contained in one classroom but caused fire and smoke damage. Outside crews were called in to begin the restoration process on Sunday.No in-person instruction or activities will take place during this time. No other schools in the Alabaster system are affected. Officials said operations are expected to return to normal on Thursday, April 27 if the restoration goes as planned.Parents of students at the school were sent text messages and emails with more details and will be updated as needed.
